A large, vintage fid, crafted from teak, an essential tool for nautical rope-work. It's 34.5 cm long, and the 4.8 cm diameter wide-end tapers to a point at the other end. Fids like this one have been used for centuries when working with ropes, e.g. when splicing two ropes together, or making decorative knots like the Monkey-fist and the Turk's Head.
